The Soup Group

One of the things which makes Perry such a wonderful place to live are the long-term friendships that are formed in the small-town atmosphere. On a recent visit to Perry, I had lunch at the famous New Perry Hotel. While there I ran into The Soup Group!

Mrs. Joe Gayle (head of table) & Mrs. Hugh Lawson (to her left) contributed much to my religious training in the Perry First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Margaret Talton (at left) is the mother of a childhood best friend, Beth
. Seated next is Mrs. Elizabeth Hill.

The Soup Group
is a small informal group of women who meet for lunch at "the hotel". Many of these women have contributed for many years to Perry's cultural and religious communities; and many also were instrumental in my growth from childhood to womanhood in this charming little Southern town.

It is good to see long and meaningful friendships still flourishing - friendships that speak to the congeniality for which the South is known.
