Uniform of Major Joseph Palmer This uniform frock coat is in the collection of The Confederate Museum located at Cannonball House in Macon, Georgia. Though restoration is needed, the coat is unique in the fact that it has its original crimson sash. The buttons are Federal as are those found on many Confederate uniforms. Standing to the right of the coat is the captured Yankee sword of Col. Smith. The sword was presented to Major Palmer by Gen. John Hunt Morgan after the battle of Elizabethtown, Kentucky in appreciation of the Southern Rights Battery's exemplary performance which led to the Confederate victory. |
